Yaquina Beach Panoramic

I’ve been meaning to get around to this for a while now. Brittany and I visited Yaquina Bay outside of Newport, Oregon during our honeymoon in October. My camera has a neat feature that lets you do 3 photos in succession to form a wide screen panorama. I did it twice to create a 6 photo panoramic view from the shore next to the Yaquina lighthouse. I lined them up the best I could, which is admittedly not very good.

Yeast Experiment in BYO

In the January-February issue of BYO on page 48 you can find my results of the BBR/BYO yeast pitching rate experiment. My results and the disappointingly few other results were also discussed in the November 12 episode of Basic Brewing Radio. My results were contrary to the other participants which just solidified my belief that the finishing gravities didn’t seem correct. I doubt infection was involved, so I’m going to blame yeast suspension.

Where’s Brittany?

As some of you may or may not know, I am happily married to a movie star. Early last year Brittany starred in the Johnny Depp / Christian Bale summer blockbuster, Public Enemies. As an uncredited extra, but nonetheless, she is in the movie. The production company chose the Darlington, Wisconsin court house for one of the scenes, which just so happens to be her mother’s place of work. Auditions were held in Madison and shortly thereafter she received a call that they wanted her in the movie.

Here she is in front of the court house in full costume, ready for filming, and standing next to a woman I don’t know.

Her scene is very short – only about 2 minutes, from 00:59 until 01:01 – and they only show the audience a few times, but I was able to find her when I saw the movie in the theater (without help from Brittany). It was like a timed, one chance Where’s Waldo. Unfortunately, they don’t let you bring video or still cameras into theaters so I had to wait to verify the sighting until I bought the DVD. Here she is:
