Very good write-up. I've brewed Kolsches (s... es...?) but never an Alt. Think I'll have to add it to my to-brew list.

I was stationed in Germany three times. Once in Rheinland-Pfalz (wine country and before I developed a love of beer) and twice in Northern Bavaria (Franconia).

Never even heard of Kolsch or Alt until after I returned to the States for the last time.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, the temperature controller in my beer freezer broke and ruined this beer. I'll give it another try at some point in the future though!

I feel I have to explain the bottle of Gallo (aka Wal-Mart) wine on my kitchen counter. Brittany and I found that bottle in the first place we lived together over two years ago. It had quite a bit of dust and the top part of the thermoseal was missing - as if someone was about to drink it but changed their mind. We've taken it with us through two moves. We now leave it out as one of the world's lamest inside jokes.

The $5 bottle of port standing upright next to the rack cannot be explained, however :)
